WATCH: Needlessly intense moment between Travis Browne and journalist at press conference

Calm down

Ben Kiely

Travis Browne was a major grumpus following his TKO victory over Matt Mitrione at UFC Boston.

Browne got the finish after hurting his opponent with two eye-pokes during their main card bout which a lot of people felt was controversial.

After the fight, Mitrione’s eye was a disgusting mess, partly due to the heavy punches from Happa, but th eye-pokes also seemed to cause some of the damage.

One journalist asked Browne whether he would be content with taking an immediate rematch with Mitrione because of the fans’ complaints of the refereeing on social media during the post-fight press conference. Browne clearly too issue with the idea that the result was controversial and

Journalist: “If the promotion suggested some sort of a rematch, how would you think about that?”

Browne: “Rematch with who?”

J: “A rematch with Matt (Mitrione).”

B: “A rematch with Matt?”

J: “Yeah, just on account of, maybe some of the controversy. Just to put it to rest.”

B: “Is there that much controversy about the fight?”

J: “On the internet.”

At this point the UFC heavyweight became confrontational with the reporter.

B: “What about to you?”

J: “It was weird man, I wasn’t in the cage so I couldn’t tell you (nervously laughs).”

B: “Well, neither was anybody else, but you say there’s controversy. So, what do you think?”

J:  “Well, I think that eh.. it felt like the referee didn’t take the second eye-poke as seriously as he could have.”

B: “So when a guy jumps in on a guy that’s defending themselves (sic), do you think that’s necessary when they’re not doing it intentionally?”

J: “… it’s up to the commission to help set these rules.”

B: “Yeah, commission and refs, so I don’t understand the controversy.”

J: “…thank you.”

B: “Thank you.”
