For an Irish MMA fan, the longest-running storyline in the sport isn’t Rousey vs. Cyborg, a superfight between Jones and Silva or Fedor Emelianenko’s imminent return.
It’s the long-awaited announcement of a Croke Park fight night.
While that day may still be a few months away, Conor McGregor has revealed that the UFC are in talks to bring the octagon to the biggest stadium in Ireland.
The Notorious was in attendance at the National Stadium to watch some of his friends compete in a terrific night of boxing and was interviewed by Box Nation TV when he spoke about the promotion’s inevitable return to the Irish capital.
“It’s in talks. We’re talking Croke Park now shortly. Croke Park it looks like this year. Croke Park or Aviva but it will be big.”
By “this year” we presume that McGregor means “within the next year” and all indications from UFC president Dana White are that they intend to have The Notorious headline a Croke Park card in 2016 should he beat Jose Aldo in their featherweight title unification bout in December.
