So detailed was Jose Aldo’s mockery of Conor McGregor that the Vikings reference passed a lot of people by.
The featherweight champion released a statement yesterday in which he said McGregor would have nothing but a toy to show his drunk friends and that the Irishman is more comedian than fighter.
But he also claimed that The Notorious had fashioned his image around a fictional character, writing: “I can’t say anything about a man that imitates a TV series character (Travis Fimmel, from Vikings).”
Fimmell plays Ragnar in the hit TV show and castmate Clive Standen, who portrays Rollo, took to Twitter to stick up for McGregor.
Aldo, @TheNotoriousMMA is no imitation. He’s cut from the same cloth! We #Vikings all look forward to seeing his coronation! Rollo & Ragnar

Could we see a 2016 McGregor cameo? Here’s hoping.
