Perhaps this referee should look for another line of work.
At Jungle Fight 81 on Saturday night, the third man in the cage clearly was unaware that Jose Alday was working on a Von Flue choke to counter the guillotine attempt of Nelson Ferreira.
It's a rare submission, granted, but officials should be able to tell when fighters have lost consciousness and the man in question at Jungle Fight clearly didn't as he allowed Alday to transition to mount and lock up a head-and-arm choke before the fighter himself called a halt to the contest.
With chokeholds, particularly blood chokes like the Von Flue, seconds can be as important as minutes and this ref obviously needs to do a bit of research.
The choke was named after former UFC fighter Jason Von Flue who coined the term after submitting Alex Karalexis at UFC Fight Night 3 in 2006.
