VIDEO: Rousimar Palhares up to his old tricks as he fails to release submission of Jake Shields

This guy shouldn't fight

While the vast majority of fight fans’ attention was directed towards a certain Ronda Rousey last night, there was another huge card going on.

World Series of Fighting put on one of their best ever cards which was headlined by a welterweight title fight between Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields.

And while Palhares came out on top, more questions were raised about his sportsmanship as he seemed to delay the release of a kimura on the challenger.

Even as the referee attempted to pry the Brazilian off, Toquinho still appeared to crank on Shields’ shoulder for an extra few seconds.

The move incensed Shields so much that he lashed out at Palhares as this is not the first time that the champion has been found guilty of such behaviour.

Palhares was released by the UFC after repeatedly hanging on to heel hooks after his opponent had tapped and his submissions of both Steve Carl and Jon Fitch in the WSOF were also questionable, to put it lightly.

There’s no place for actually trying to injure an opponent after the bout has finished so we’re expecting some strict punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission and, at this stage, a lifetime ban wouldn’t be out of the question.
