VIDEO: Derrick Lewis dedicates win to late coach after starching Gabriel Gonzaga in first

A class, if scary, act

Derrick Lewis just keeps on giving us reasons to jump on his bandwagon.

‘The Black Beast’ earned three consecutive victories for the first time in his UFC career with a stunning first round knockout of MMA legend Gabriel Gonzaga in the co-main event of UFC Zagreb on Sunday night.

Lewis continued his record of not letting his wins go to the judges by absolutely mincing the Brazilian with just seconds remaining in the opening round.

The Texan heavyweight didn’t have it all his way in the round after having his back taken early on by Gonzaga but the advantage enjoyed by Lewis on the feet was telling with Gonzaga’s tentativeness in the striking exchanges.

And all it took was one winged shot in a scramble to put Gonzaga out. ‘Napao’ ate a right hand under the forward momentum of Lewis and he crumpled, faceplanting into the mat.

And after the bout, Lewis took the time to pay tribute to his coach Tony Orozco who passed away in the run-up to Lewis’ fight.

“I train with the best gym in the world, 4oz Fight Club and Houston Muay Thai,” Lewis said in his post-fight interview.

“I just want to give a shout out to one of my head coaches who passed away last week, Tony Orozco.

“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t even be here so thank you!”
