VIDEO: Dominick Cruz explains his victory jab at Kenny Florian’s plagiarism controversy

No malice

What a way to celebrate a title-win.

Dominick Cruz reclaimed the belt he never lost with a superb decision victory over TJ Dillashaw in UFC Boston’s main event.

The Dominator showed off his evasion prowess by weaving and bobbing out of the way of most of Dillashaw’s attacks. He also landed more significant strikes and scored three more takedowns than Dillashaw to see a split decision (49-46, 46-49, 47-48) go his way.

After becoming the new UFC bantamweight champion, Cruz decided to poke fun at analyst and former fighter Kenny Florian over his recent plagiarism controversy which resulted in him being suspended by Fox Sports.

It was a bit of a head-scratcher of a moment, but the new king of the 135-lb division explained in the post-fight press conference that the comments were meant in jest.

“That’s friendly fire. I like Kenny, you know. He didn’t pick me in the fight. He gave me really no chance in this fight, so it’s just a little poke.”

“Nothing big. He’s got great hair.”

I guess that (among several other factors) rules out his first defence being against the Ken-Flo, so.
