Former UFC middleweight contender Sonnen has weighed in his opinion on UFC 189.

The American Gangster, who correctly predicted that Jones vs Johnson would be cancelled, thinks that Conor McGregor doesn’t have a hope in hell against Jose Aldo.

The man who once fought Jon Jones for the light heavyweight belt reckons that the Irish UFC superstar is a tier below the elite fighters of the featherweight division.

“I love the entertainment value, I don’t necessarily buy into the skill set (of McGregor)”

“When I look at murderer’s row in that weight class, I look at Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo. I just don’t think that Conor McGregor can crack into that.”

Chael added that he understands why Aldo v McGregor sparked so much intrigue, although he feels that the champ will have no problem claiming victory in Vegas.

“A lot of people are arguing that I’m right, that he would have problems against Chad Mendes and Frankie Edgar, they just like the way he matches up with Aldo.”

“I want to officially go on the record and say, I don’t think it’s a close fight, I just think Aldo runs through him. That’s not a knock to Conor, I just have that much respect for Aldo.”

That being said, Sonnen also backed Browne to defeat Arlovski. So maybe we won’t take his word as sacrosanct just yet.
