UFC veteran receives nasty comeuppance for missing weight by absolutely staggering amount

One of the most devastating spinning head kick KOs ever

Ben Kiely

Sweet zombie Jesus! This is absolutely vicious.

If you’ve been following Melvin Guillard’s career since he left the UFC, you will know the veteran fighter is on a downward spiral.

Aside from racking up all those losses, ‘The Young Assassin’ has consistently been having trouble on the scales. He only missed weight once during his UFC tenure, coming in 1.5 lb over the lightweight upper limit for his 2012 bout against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

He failed to make weight in both fights under the WSOF banner, including a title bout against new kid on the UFC block Justin Gaethje. He actually made weight for his Bellator debut against Brandon Girtz. However, he then missed it twice on the bounce, failed a drug test at Bellator 159 and then bowed out of the promotion on a loss to Chidi Njokuani at 179 lbs catchweight.

Yesterday, for his welterweight bout against Muslim Salikhov at Kunlun Fight MMA 12, he tipped the scales a staggering 11 lbs over – which is actually a few pounds under the middleweight limit.

While Guillard hasn’t enjoyed the best form of late, his opponent for the event, a multiple world champion in Wushu Sanda, really has. Guillard was 1-4-1NC since being released by the UFC heading into the fight, Salikhov was 11-1 overall.

On paper, the fight was an absolute mismatch, despite Guillard’s huge experience advantage. However, fights aren’t won on paper.

It’s a real shame that they are actually won inside a cage and not on paper because that would have spared Guillard from being rendered unconscious by this absolutely stunning spinning head kick. This marked his third knockout loss in the last five years.
