Training partner genuinely believes Jon Jones’ failed drug test was a set up

He has a theory

Jon Jones

There’s never a dull moment in the life of Jon Jones.

Jon Jones, arguably the greatest fighter to ever grace an Octagon, has failed a second USADA drug test 11 months after being flagged for a banned oestrogen blocker.

The light heavyweight great’s failed test stems from an in-competition sample collected after the July 28 weigh-ins for his rematch against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. The following night, Jones stepped inside the Octagon at Honda Center in Anaheim and defeated Cormier via third-round knockout.

That comeback win against his greatest rival seemed like Jones closing the troubled chapter of his life, but now he is provisionally suspended and staring down the barrel of a potential four-year ban. After spending the entire build-up to the fight telling everyone how he had changed his ways and was living completely clean, people are wondering exactly how this situation happened again.

Frank Lester, who coaches at Jackson-Winkjohn Academy, the gym where Jones trains, has a theory regarding Jones’ latest drug test failure.

Lester was with Jones when he received the phone call informing him of the positive drug test, which he believes was a complete set up.

“No athlete would test clean his entire fight camp, and then randomly take some cheap fucking oral steroid betweens weigh ins and fight night knowing he would be tested once he got done fighting. This is a straight set up. They are trying to ruin this kids life. It makes no sense and Jon wouldn’t do it.”

“Let’s see what happens with all of this but I truly believe Jon is innocent & I hope that all of you will give him a fair chance before you send hateful judgements (sic) his way.”

If it really was a set up we have just two questions – who did it and why?
