The 10 stages of every UFC fight withdrawal

From the rumours to the trolling

Darragh Murphy

Fucking injuries. Am I right?

Too often in recent years have we seen stellar fights fall by the wayside because a kick was misplaced or a cut was opened up or an elevator malfunctioned.

It almost doesn’t seem worthwhile getting one’s hopes up because seemingly every other high-profile fight is postponed or scrapped altogether.

But injuries are part of the game. They happen all the time. And they invariably follow this formula.

1 – First comes the tittle-tattle that the scheduled bout is no more.

2 – Inevitably, esteemed MMA Fighting reporter Ariel Helwani’s notifications start piling up.

3 – Of course, UFC president Dana White is going to display his typical trustworthiness by denying the claims.

4 – UFC officially confirm that the rumours are true.

5 – The heartfelt statement arrives from the fighter who was forced to pull out.

6 – The trolling begins.

7 – Donald Cerrone gets wind.

8 – Graphic pictures of the injury emerge.

10. Before all the excitement and anticipation comes crashing down with one word… “Scrapped!”
