Paul Redmond becomes latest Irish fighter to sign for the UFC

It’s official, one of our Ireland’s most promising MMA prospects, Paul Redmond has signed for the world’s largest MMA promotion

The Dubliner has a 10-4 record in professional MMA will be filling in for the Alan Omer to fight Mirsad Bektic in a featherweight on the UFC Stockholm card on January 24. He joins countryman Neil Seery on the early prelims. Seery will face the highly touted Chris Beal in a flyweight bout.

Bektic is a highly rated featherweight who boasts a perfect 8-0 record, with four KOs, two submissions and two coming by way of judges decision. He will also have the added advantage of fighting at his natural weight for the fight, whereas Redmond, who normally fights at lightweight, will have to cut more weight than usual for the bout.

Redmond becomes the second Irish fighter to sign for the UFC in less the space of less than a week. Last week, it was announced that Joseph Duffy, the last man to defeat Conor McGregor and Norman Parke inside the cage, had sign for the promotion on a multi-fight deal.

Redser, who’s known for his outstanding stand-up and sublime ground game, had one of the submissions of 2014, forcing a tap from Greek fighter Alexis Savvidis with a lethal toe hold at Cage Warriors 70.
