Palhares v Fitch – Did Rousimar hold the submission for too long again?

I count nine taps

Darragh Murphy

Well, it happened again.

Rousimar Palhares (17-6) finished another fight via leg lock and he wasn’t exactly in a hurry to let go, again.

The Brazilian was defending his WSOF welterweight belt against Jon Fitch (26-7) but the fight lasted just 90 seconds after “Toquinho” latched onto a foot.

Jon Fitch did well to defend the heel hook, initially, before Palhares switched to a knee bar and cranked.

Then came the usual twisting, the presumable agony and the plentiful tapping of his opponent.

The finish was Palhares’ 14th submission victory, the majority of which have come via heel hook or some variation thereof but the fighter was cut by the UFC last year after being found guilty of holding on to submissions for too long.

After Saturday night’s fight, WSOF president Ray Sefo described Palhares’ finish as “perfectly clean”.

You be the judge!
