Nick Diaz really didn’t want to talk badly about Eddie Alvarez but just couldn’t help himself

"I want to feel sorry for him!"

“I have nothing against Alvarez. I like Alvarez. I’ve never had anything bad to say about him.”

Nick Diaz tried his damnedest to avoid talking shit about former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez during a recent appearance on The Jasta Show.

“I don’t want to disrespect Eddie Alvarez,” Diaz said before giving his typically honest opinion on why Alvarez failed in his first attempted defence of his 155lbs crown.

“I’m just disappointed in him for the fight. Like I want to feel sorry for him. I want to go ‘Man I feel bad for you but what do you think you’re going to get?’

“I don’t want to talk about…I never want to talk about…”

The host gave Diaz every opportunity to skip over that subject of discussion but Diaz is notoriously unable to keep his thoughts to himself, which is an endearing quality and one that has made him one of the most popular fighters in MMA history.

Diaz claimed that he believed Conor McGregor put a lot more work into preparing for and promoting the UFC 205 headliner and suggested that Alvarez’s family life and non-fighting responsibilities may have hindered his performance in the Octagon.

“What I’m saying is that he’s invested a lot of his time and efforts elsewhere and not in fighting,” Diaz said.

“And in the time leading up to the fight, I think McGregor put a lot more time and understanding into it and he was a lot more in-tune with his understanding where Eddie Alvarez thinks he’s a winner and wants to believe that.

“McGregor knows why he’s a winner and knows why he believes that.

“For me, I have to base my faith in stuff that works and shit I can see and stuff that I know. Not just like ‘I’m going to win by pumping myself and go out there.’

“I think about ‘If this guy does this, I’m going to do that.’ And I can see it, I watch and I know what I’m looking at.

“I think for a lot of other people, there’s just not enough time in the day for them to do what I do and have a whole life on the side which is for sure what he’s got.”
