Nate Diaz’s reaction to drunk text really sums up his character

"I'm like, 'You've got to be kidding me!'"

If you pocket-dial Nate Diaz, you could be in for an interesting evening.

Luke Thomas recounted a gas anecdote of accidentally drunk texting Nate Diaz on the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat for MMA Fighting. After having a couple of drinks, Thomas attempted to hit up a friend of his named Nate.

“Like a couple of weeks ago – this is a true story, I didn’t tell anyone this – I’m texting one of my friends, Nate. I’m like, ‘Dude, I’ve got a story to tell you.’ I forget exactly how I worded it. There was no immediate response and I put the phone in my pocket and I sat back down.”

“I was on the train and I had like a few beers at this point. I was done with work, for the most part, and I was not thinking. So, texting a friend. No harm there, right? I didn’t get a response and I was like ‘that’s kind of weird’. Usually, this person’s quick.”

When he finally received the reply, he realised he had made a horrible mistake that every journalist fears.

“I looked at my phone and there’s a text from Nate Diaz and it says, I’m not kidding, ‘Who dis?’ (laughs) and I’m like ‘Ohhh noooo! I texted Nate Diaz. Oh God! What have I done?'”

Thomas claims there was nothing incriminating or embarrassing about the text. All he sent was, ‘Dude, I’ve got a story to tell you.’ However, he was blushing over the awkwardness of the situation. He tried to apologise to Diaz, but at that point, the Stockton native had become invested.

“So then I’m like, ‘Real sorry, Nate. Apologies. Meant to text someone else. Have a great night. My sincere mistake. Sorry for bothering you.’ Like five minutes passes and he goes, ‘Well, tell me your story.’ And I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’. He texts like an ear emoji or something and he wanted me to tell him the story.”

So Thomas obliged. Without getting too far into the details, he told Diaz his story. Diaz didn’t just pay him lip service either, he engaged in the conversation.

“I gave him some basic generalisations. I didn’t get too far into anything. This went on for like five minutes. He’s giving me details and advice on how to handle something and I’m just like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. This is hilarious.’ Then, at the end, he was just like, ‘Have a good night.'”

“Here’s my point about it all without divulging the context of my conversation, as a drunk idiot I texted him something by accident and he took it and ran with it and was kind of cool about it.”

What a sound fella.
