Louis Smolka wasn’t surprised at all by fans throwing bottles after he submitted Paddy Holohan

It's part of the sport

A great night of fighting was almost marred by loutish behaviour from a select group of fans.

Louis Smolka put in a sublime performance in the main event to force a tap from hometown hero Paddy Holohan.

However, things turned sour after Smolka won the fight as some fans threw bottles, plastic cups and even a tennis ball towards the Octagon. However, the flyweight star admitted he wasn’t particularly bothered by this reaction from the fans.

“You have to expect a lot of backlash with things like that. I was kind of expecting it. It wasn’t that bad to be honest. It’s a thing I was prepared for. Of course, someone’s going to get mad if you beat their hometown boy.”

“It would be the same if we fought in Hawaii and he beat me. Hawaii would go nuts, they would be throwing shit, screaming, it would be pandemonium. It’s just part of the sport, you have to kind of just go with it.”
