More than 3,000 of you voted in our poll, as our esteemed writers made their cases, and the Dubliner garnered a huge 52 per cent of the vote, three times the support for second-placed Jon Walters.
Republic of Ireland star Walters polled a respectable 17 per cent, ahead of rugby legend Paul O’Connell (9.7 per cent) and NBA sharpshooter Stephen Curry (9 per cent).
