It would have been a downright shame if Conor McGregor’s title win wasn’t recognised by Dublin in some way, shape or form.
An online petition started this week, which campaigned for Dublin City Council to organise an official homecoming ceremony for the new UFC featherweight champion, received 19,000 votes.
And the pressure has obviously paid off as Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh has revealed that a civic reception would indeed be taking place for McGregor in late January.
And here is what the always opinionated internet had to say.

It took the Sinn Fein led Dublin City Council kicking and screaming into giving Conor McGregor a civic reception.
