Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis open to Conor McGregor bout

Get in line

The Notorious would be more interested in taking on Rafael dos Anjos.

Anthony Pettis would be open to fighting Conor McGregor in the near future, were the Irishman to step up in weight class.

Pettis, who lost his lightweight belt to dos Anjos earlier this year, was speaking on a FOX Sports segment called ‘Ask the Analyst’.

‘What’s next for me is getting my belt back,’ said Pettis. ‘This guy that beat me last has my belt and I want that back. That’s the big thing on my mind right now.

‘But, Conor McGregor, I heard he’s moving up to 155, so I’ll welcome him to one of the hardest weight classes for sure.’

Fighters are now well aware, following the UFC’s record-breaking financial return for July’s Las Vegas event, that any bout involving Mcregor will be big news.

Already lining up to take McGregor on are Frankie Edgar, Urijah Faber, TJ Dillashaw and featherweight champion José Aldo.

One stumbling block for any potential McGregor-Pettis bout would be the American’s patchy fitness record. He has not fought since his belt loss and pulled out of an encounter with Myles Jury.
