Former Bellator fighter found guilty of robbing a bank

Jack O'Toole

Former Bellator fight Sergio da Silva was convicted of robbing a bank in Queens, New York, for a crime he committed on August 24th, 2017.

According to the New York Daily News, da Silva threatened to shoot a bank teller before leaving the building with $45,000 in cash.

The former could now face up to seven years in prison but will not face 25 years in jail after he was found not guilty of the more serious first-degree robbery, which hinged on whether or not he actually had a gun during the crime.

his attorney told TMZ Sports that Da Silva is planning to appeal his conviction and he added of the sentencing: “Thanks to the insight of the jury, he walked out of court a free man Thursday and was not convicted of any violent offence.”

Da Silva is due to be sentenced on February 28. He held a 7-9 professional record in MMA with his last bout serving up a second round win via disqualification over Walter Smith-Cotito.
