Fedor Emelianenko won’t have endeared himself to Ronda Rousey with his views on women’s MMA

With the controversy surrounding Anderson Silva, it’d be pretty hard to argue against Fedor Emelianenko being the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

But we think he’ll have gone down in the estimation of a few fight fans with his latest comments about UFC bantamweight Ronda Rousey and women’s MMA in general.

“The Last Emperor” was speaking to WHOATV about Rousey’s most recent title defence against Cat Zingano and claimed that female fighters shouldn’t compete in the sport.

Emelianenko’s interpreter translated the Russian’s comments, saying: “He saw her fight. She has really interesting fights. Maybe a little bit of improvement to striking, but he doesn’t support women’s MMA.

“Women shouldn’t compete in UFC/MMA because this sport is for men.

“There are a lot of sports where women look like women – like gymnastics, water sports, maybe some athletics.

“He’s telling that women shouldn’t fight. MMA is for men. It’s a man sport.”

Controversial stuff.
