Eddie Alvarez teases UFC 200 title shot against Rafael dos Anjos

Don’t toy with our emotions like this, Eddie Alvarez.

As it stands, there is a distinct lack of title fights booked for UFC 200.

Although the lineup has yet to be set and there are still fight announcements left to make, it’s looking like the non-title fight welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz will headline. An interim featherweight title bout between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo will also feature, but it is unclear whether that will fill the co-main slot.

With every champion bar Robbie Lawler, Miesha Tate and Rafael dos Anjos already having fights scheduled in the coming weeks, there is a possibility that one of these three stars will be added to the card to defend their belt.

Number one-ranked lightweight contender Eddie Alvarez dropped a hint on Twitter on Friday that he may be getting his shot against RDA on July 9.

While it’s very possible that the former Bellator champion is simply launching a campaign for his UFC title shot, there is a legitimate chance this fight may actually happen at UFC 200. RDA hasn’t competed since demolishing Donald Cerrone inside one round in December.

Meanwhile, Alvarez has looked in sensational form since joining the big leagues since losing his debut to Cerrone. He has defeated former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez and former UFC champion Anthony Pettis in his last two trips to the Octagon to solidify his position as the number one-ranked contender in the 155 lb division.

With Lawler remaining quiet and rumours circulating that GSP will delay his return to fighting until later on in the year, dos Anjos v Alvarez might actually happen on July 9.
