Director explains why a certain 13-seconds are omitted from the new Jose Aldo movie

Wouldn't affect the running time too much

It doesn’t look like any dramatic reenactments of UFC 194 will be making the director’s cut either.

The Jose Aldo biopic “Mais Forte que o Mundo – A História de José Aldo” (Stronger Than the World – The Jose Aldo Story) premiered in Brazil this week after its initial release date of December was pushed back.

Its premiere was postponed until summer 2016 because Conor McGregor’s pesky Celtic cross knockout had to happen and piss all over the parade.

The film’s director Afonso Poyart has been taking the film on tour around Brazil and despite the fact that it was clearly made well in advance of UFC 194, he’s still receiving questions about why he didn’t include Aldo’s belt-losing performance in the film.

Poyart explained why the Notorious doesn’t feature to Portal do Vale Tudo.

“The film’s main theme is his relationship with his father, like we show on the screen. So the film ends when he becomes the UFC champion, chronologically, it doesn’t involve McGregor. But it works for this McGregor stage of his career, too.”

“The film doesn’t only talk about winning, it talks about losing and getting back on your feet. People need to know the Jose Aldo that came all the way from Manaus and everything he has gone through, to understand that one loss is nothing compared to what he has been through.”

A simple, “The film was completed before December” would have been a sufficient answer too.
