Dillon Danis’s hugely ambitious call out results in predictable Jon Jones response

Can't blame him for trying

It was always going to be a long shot, but it looks like Dillon Danis’s hopes of ever taking on Jon Jones are dead in the water.

Until his NSAC suspension runs its course this summer, it looks like the target on Jon Jones’s back in the world of professional grappling is just going to keep grow growing.

After forcing the tap from Dan Henderson via arm triangle in his debut at Submission Underground 2, the former UFC light heavyweight champion began receiving fight requests from just about everyone. After just one performance, Jones had the likes of former UFC middleweight Luke Rockhold and leg-lock whizz Garry Tonon looking to put their grappling skills to the test against arguably the greatest fighter to ever grace a Octagon.

One of the stranger call outs he received was from Dillon Danis, who rose to prominence in the MMA community as the training partner of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Danis has been looking to make his MMA debut against UFC welterweight Sage Northcutt or 155-er Nate Diaz, so him calling out a guy who has to cut to make 205 lbs came as a bit of  a shock to fans.

He didn’t stop with that two-word tweet either. He recently shared a mock-up of a fight poster for a potential contest between himself and Jones on his Instagram account which gained a lot of traction.

Unsurprisingly, Jones has zero interest in taking on Danis in a grappling match. As he explained to Fight Hub TV, Danis has nothing going for him in order to book that bout. The huge size difference is the main issue Jones has with fighting him, especially considering he’s only after fighting Henderson, whom he dwarfed in the match.

“With him, he’s a lot smaller than me. So already going into that grappling match there’s not much to gain. I just beat Henderson and I was a lot bigger than him, so I think right now people will like to see me go against people who are bigger than me, just to have a different challenge.”

Jones also didn’t appreciate the manner in which Danis called him out. He felt that Danis boldly asking him to beg him was a real douchey move, so why even bother giving him the time of day?

“Him telling me to beg him it was just kind of a douchey thing to do. I felt like I was already at a situation where I had not very much to gain. Not many people know who he is. So I just felt like he was being a douchebag. I’m not even going to entertain you.”
