Cub Swanson says he would knock out “idiot” Conor McGregor

Cubbie Bear's future still up in the air

It seems that Cub Swanson is still hurting from the Notorious calling him out as Hans Moleman’s doppelganger.

The UFC featherweight hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since his submission loss to Max Holloway in April. He has been recovering from a broken jaw and hand he suffered in that fight, which marked his second consecutive loss.

Swanson admitted that his slump in form is causing him to weigh up his options for the future.

“You have to take into consideration that I’ve had some bad injuries and I as a person have to evaluate that. I have to know, when is enough enough.”

“I feel like I can still go in there and put on great performances, I feel like I can still grow and be a better fighter. But at what point am I risking too much? We’re going out there and laying it all on the line.”

He revealed that his hiatus from fighting is “probably” temporary and that he aims to use the time off to imrpove his skill-set for his return to the cage.

“I’m pretty sure that I’m gonna fight again. But there’s still a little bit of doubt where I have to evaluate my situation.”

“I’m gonna take the rest of the year to train my butt off, I really am, I just kind of wanna enjoy it. And when I get hungry and I wanna do it, I call Sean (Shelby) and say, set something up.”

The beef between Swanson and Conor McGregor has been well documented. McGregor’s trash-talking at the American’s expense has caused some tension between the two fighters.

Should he ever meet the Notorious inside the Octagon, Swanson sees only one outcome.

“Of course! I can’t stand him and I’d love to knock his ass out. I know I’d beat him. Simple.”

Swanson added that although he wasn’t particularly impressed with McGregor’s interim-belt winning performance against Chad Mendes, he was delighted to see the Dubliner show some class after the bout.

“I still think he’s an idiot. He fought a guy that wasn’t ready, he got dominated for two rounds and he got the win.”

“I thought he fought smart. I was actually happy that he showed a glimpse of some class. Being cool with Chad that actually made me happy.”

McGregor making Swanson happy? That’s a new one.
