Cowboy Cerrone and Josh Barnett have differing views on Conor McGregor’s retirement

The speculation continues

Conor McGregor has announced his retirement and people still don’t know what to make of it.

If you are to believe UFC president Dana White, the UFC featherweight champion was axed from UFC 200 for refusing to do the event’s press conference in Las Vegas this week as he is training with his SBG teammates in Iceland.

During White’s appearance on Sports Center, he was unable to confirm or deny that McGregor had quit the fight game. Former heavyweight champion Josh Barnett reckons that if he was in dispute with the Zuffa big wigs, the retirement rumours may ring true.

McGregor is still under contract with the UFC and Barnett explained on Twitter that the only way he could get out of the promotion is by retiring.

Perpetual championship belt bridesmaid Donald Cerrone has a different view on McGregor’s big announcement though. Cowboy believes that this whole situation is just McGregor being an attention-seeker.

With McGregor out of UFC 200, the landmark card needs a new main event. Unsurprisingly, despite the fact that he has a fight booked against Patrick Cote three weeks before the event, Cerrone knows a guy who could step in for the headliner.
