If Conor McGregor didn't show up at UFC 223's media day, we may not be calling him a former UFC champion right now.
When Conor McGregor threw that dolly through the bus window, the UFC put their plans for him on hold. According to multiple reports, the UFC had two scenarios in mind for 'the Notorious'.
When Tony Ferguson withdrew from UFC 223's main event, the promotion considered pulling Khabib Nurmagomedov from the card. Doing this would have freed up the chance to book the McGregor vs Nurmagomedov grudge match for a later date. Funnily enough, that match-up seems inevitable now, despite McGregor's antics in Brooklyn.

The other option that was being explored was throwing McGregor into another title shot. The promotion were looking at having McGregor fight Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight strap as champion Tyron Woodley recovered from surgery. The fight was being targeted as the headline act of UFC 224 in May.
When Forbes released their richest athletes list on Wednesday, McGregor took to Instagram. He went from #24 on 2017's list to #4 in 2018. McGregor reportedly made $99 million with most of that money coming from 'The Money Fight' with Floyd Mayweather.
He claimed in the post that he agreed to fight on UFC 224, which would have seen him surpass Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to take second place.
