Conor McGregor title fight at Croke Park? Please make this happen

UFC pushing for summer bout at GAA headquarters

Conan Doherty

How many of you are licking your lips right about now?

The SportsJOE Towers are dripping with saliva at the very real prospect of Conor McGregor being roared on at a sold-out Croke Park this summer by a clamour of rapturous Irish men and women.

Imagine.  Just imagine!

Our eye balls sprang from our heads this morning when Garry Cook revealed that the UFC are exploring this option.  Theirs obviously were too of course, except they were covered in dollar signs.

The Dublin fighting sensation takes on Dennis Siver in Boston in January but, after that, things could just get turned up a notch (or 80,000 notches, depending on how many people they want to ram into Croker).

“We are looking at something very special,” former Manchester City chief executive told the Sunday World.  “Talks have taken place over the prospect of hiring Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium for a possible world title fight against the Brazilian champion Jose Aldo next summer.

“Conor is an athlete who is capturing the imagination of the Irish public and the prospect of hiring a huge outdoor stadium to stage a fight that will put him and the sport on the map is exciting all of us.

“After the success of the event we staged at the O2 Arena in Dublin earlier this year, we believe we can sell a lot of tickets for this fight. So long as everything goes okay with Conor’s next bout, it should be all systems go for next summer.”

OH. MY. GOD!
