Conor McGregor reveals plans for a move to lightweight and tells featherweights to “beg for forgiveness”

"Beg to be pardoned"

It’s going to be a long week of Conor McGregor soundbites

The Notorious is currently on a global media tour to promote his upcoming featherweight title bout against champion Jose Aldo at UFC 189.

And during the Vegas stop-off on Monday, McGregor spoke to the media and explained his post-fight plans if he claims the 145lb belt.

“I expect everyone in the top 10 of the featherweight division to line up and beg for forgiveness, beg to be pardoned!” he said said.

“If they do that, I will hand the featherweight belt back and go up to 155lbs.”

While the scenario is coated in the classic McGregor sense of humour, a move up a weight class looks to be the Dubliner’s next move as he points to the fact that the weight cut to 145lbs is not the easiest thing in the world.

“The weight cut is not easy. I make the weight and I rehydrate professionally,” he said.

“I go in there and I am on point 100% and I am a monster to these people.

“Training for lightweight camp and training for a featherweight camp is a completely different approach.

“I enjoy featherweight. They are slower at featherweight and I am not small at featherweight.”

We are very excited about the prospect of seeing the potential match-up of former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and McGregor in a clash of two of the best strikers in mixed martial arts.
