“I thought that was going to be the first question I got when walked out here. I’m proud of you guys.”
Dana White was expecting the inevitable Conor McGregor question at the UFC Liverpool post-fight press conference. Albeit, he expected that it would have been asked a bit sooner.
One of the big attractions of the UFC’s debut in Liverpool was the promise of seeing the biggest star in the history of the sport. However, UFC Liverpool came and went without any sign of McGregor. The UFC president told ESPN during fight week that he planned on sitting down with ‘The Notorious’ in the city to talk business. At the post-fight press conference, he confirmed that meeting never happened.
“Conor and I are going to meet in Vegas. Yeah, he and I haven’t seen each other since New York. We haven’t seen each other, we haven’t talked, nothing. So we need to see each other soon.”
White confessed that there wasn’t much planning the promotion could do with McGregor until his court case over the bus attack at UFC 223 happens. That is set to take place in New York next month. That being said, White has a match-up in mind.
“I’m pretty confident that that is the fight that Conor wants and I’m pretty confident that is the fight that Khabib wants. So I can see that happening.”
No surprises there. That is clearly the fight to make.
