McGregor-Mayweather set for showdown in London with free entry

Fireworks to be expected

The war of words leading up to the biggest sporting spectacle of 2017 could well be more entertaining than the fight itself.

Most fight fans expect a one-sided defensive masterclass from Floyd Mayweather come August 26 but it would be hard to deny that McGregor holds a distinct advantage in the trash-talking department.

A world tour will take place to promote the contest which, let’s be honest, needs absolutely no promotion but we’re not going to turn down the chance to witness the famously silver-tongued Irishman attempt to get under the skin of the 49-0 boxing great.

It’s understood, and as we previously flagged, that neutral cities will host the world tour, ruling out both Dublin [see below] and Mayweather’s home city of Grand Rapids.

The best bet for Irish supporters hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the pre-fight press conferences will be London, which UFC President Dana White confirmed as a stop in an interview with MMA Junkie.

With several theatres and arenas to choose from in the English capital, it’s been reported by the Sun that Wembley Stadium will host a face-off between Mayweather and ‘The Notorious’ in two weeks’ time.

10,000 fight fans are expected, with entry supposedly free to all who want to watch the pair of combat sports’ loudest mouths go back and forth.

Full details on how to secure tickets for the event should be forthcoming as soon as the event is officially confirmed.

A stage will be set up at one end of the pitch and security will presumably be at an all-time high because both men have previous when it comes to press conferences getting out of control.

McGregor infamously found himself in hot water with the Nevada State Athletic Commission after he and former foe Nate Diaz exchanged bottles across an expanse of media members in the build-up to UFC 202.

While Mayweather is not afraid to get in any opponent’s face and even put his hands on Shane Mosley ahead of their 2010 clash.

We can’t bloody wait!
