Five days before his New York court date with Conor McGregor, Cian Cowley was getting his hand raised in Belfast.

Cowley came back from early adversity to finish Daniel Olejniczak at Brave 13 in the SSE Arena. The Polish fighter was badly rocked in the opening exchanges. A huge knee caused the hometown hero to buckle, but he managed to recover. The SBG welterweight ended up finishing the bout via grounded elbows in the very first round.

That TKO victory was Cowley’s first win in professional MMA. He lost his debut via rear-naked choke to David Khalsa at BAMMA 29. The result sees the Muay Thai standout improve his record to 1-1. Meanwhile, Olejniczak drops to 1-2.

Cowley was part of the group that joined McGregor in his infamous bus attack at UFC 223 media day at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Cowley and McGregor were both charged with one count of criminal mischief apiece. McGregor was also charged with three counts of assault for allegedly throwing the dolly through the red corner fighters’ van’s window. Two fighters were injured and three bouts scheduled for UFC 223 were forced to be cancelled over the incident. Cowley and McGregor’s court date is set for Thursday 19 June in New York.

McGregor was in the box cheering on Cowley on Saturday night. Following the win, he sent out a tweet to offer his congratulations.
