Cerrone: Conor had his chance. Sit your ass down

Jack O'Toole

UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone has said that Conor McGregor has had his chance at the title and now must step aside.

McGregor was soundly beaten by reigning and defending champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last year but currently has no opponent lined up in the near future.

Cerrone will take on fellow contender Tony Ferguson this weekend at UFC 238 in Chicago and he said that he’d prefer a shot at the title if he wins rather than a chance to fight the more lucrative McGregor.

“Conor’s had his shot, sit your ass down now f—ker,” Cerrone said when speaking to the media in Chicago on Wednesday. “[I’ll] take the belt.”

Meanwhile the UFC recently confirmed that Nurmagomedov would fight Dustin Poirier in September and UFC President Dana White has said that McGregor wants another shot at the undefeated Russian but that he will have to see how the fights play out first.

“Conor 100 percent believes he can beat Khabib,” White said via MMAFighting. “He wants the rematch, he feels he deserves the rematch before anybody else. So we’ve got to see how these fights play out. This weekend is a very big, important fight in that whole division and what’s gonna happen. Then in September the Khabib fight will play out in Abu Dhabi. Then we’ll see what’s next.”
