Anderson Silva’s defence in his drugs case will strike a chord with underperforming men

A lover and a fighter

Ah, the old ‘I wasn’t taking steroids but I was popping sex pills’ defense.

Anderson Silva lawyers will argue, in an upcoming case about his alleged steroid use, that the Brazilian’s drug test was tainted as he took ‘Sexual performance’ medication.

The Spider will go before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Thursday for a disciplinary hearing. He failed in- and out-of-competition drug tests in January of this year and has not fought since.

The former UFC middleweight champion’s lawyers will present Silva’s case. In a nutshell [pardon the half pun], Silva’s claim is that sexual performance medication and another supplement contaminated the test results.

In an answer to the NAC, obtained by MMA Fighting, Silva’s lawyer Michael Alonso writes: ‘[He was] administering or using a supplement for the purpose of enhancing sexual performance and testing of the supplement revealed that the supplement was contaminated with an Exogenous Anabolic Agent: Drostanolone metabolite.’

The 40-year-old’s urine sample also tested positive for Temazepam and Oxazepam but the lawyer argues that his legal team have not received clear information about this.

Temazepam is often used as a sleep aid, whereas oxazepam is commonly taken as anti-anxiety medication.

Silva’s legal team are seeking to avoid disciplinary action from the NAC and are asking that his unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz, on January 31, not be declared ‘no contest’.
