Anderson Silva’s win against Nick Diaz ‘to be overturned’ following PED debacle

A hefty fine is likely to follow

Well, that fight just seems pointless now

Anderson Silva’s victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 183 will be switched to a “no contest”, according to NSAC director Bob Bennett. This comes after it emerged that Silva tested positive for drostanolone metabolites, a form of steroids, from a pre-fight test which took place on January 9.

Bennett confirmed the news that we all expected to Brazilian newspaper Folha.

Yes, it will be ruled a NC (no contest). I don’t know if he will receive the win bonus after this change. That’s UFC’s call, but a percentage of his purse will be held because of this episode.

The Spider is now staring down the barrell of a hefty fine as well as a lengthy ban from competing inside the Octagon. Also, Bennett’s comments also imply that the UFC might revoke his lucrative win bonus which is estimated to be around $200,000.

The overturned result means that Silva is without a win since 2012, and considering he faces a long-term ban from competing, UFC 183 might have been the last time we’ll ever see the 39-year-old compete in MMA.
