Dana White has announced that a title fight between Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo is in the works for next summer. McGregor is due to face fringe contender Dennis Siver in Boston next January and the UFC president affirmed that the Notorious would get his crack at the belt if he defeats the German.

White made the revelations at the UFC 179 post-fight press conference.

A lot of people are dismissing Siver and saying this fight is ridiculous. Siver knows exactly what happens if he comes in and beats Conor McGregor. It’s a huge win for him; you know he’s going to take the fight serious and he’s going to come in to try and win, so there’s no sense in really even talking about the Aldo fight.

But if (McGregor) should win, we would definitely be interested in making that (title) fight. But this has to happen first. Let the Siver fight happen first, and we’ll see how everything else plays out.

White hinted that undisputed champion Jose Aldo might take some time off to recover after his 25-minute war with Chad Mendes in Brazil. Aldo outpointed the Team Alpha Male product over five grueling rounds to take home the unanimous decision victory.

Jose Aldo just finished this fight. (McGregor will) probably fight in January in Boston. Then we can probably have a fight between those guys in the summer, if everything goes right.

(Aldo) looked a little banged up tonight. He usually takes a little time off after his title fights anyway.

First you have to go in and beat Dennis Siver. You don’t ever want to jump ahead of fights. He has a fight with Dennis Siver. If he wins that fight, we’ll figure out the how, who, when, and where.

However, perpetual featherweight contender Cub Swanson claims that he he could be next in line for the title shot, not McGregor. The American tweeted that he has been promised the next title shot against Jose Aldo if he defeats Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 57 on November 22.

Swanson is riding a stunning six-fight winning streak in the UFC but has already lost to Aldo. The pair threw down in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion in 2009, which gives weight to the theory that McGregor will be the next fighter to take on Aldo.
