Heartbreak for the Jordanstown native today in Florida

The cruelty of Q-School was brutally experienced by our own Stephanie Meadow today. The 22-year-old from Jordanstown burst onto the national consciousness when she finished third in the US Open at Pinehurst this summer and after turning pro the golfer was in Daytona Beach to try and earn one of the 20 full Tour cards on offer for the LPGA next season. A few errors on Sunday saw Meadow slip back into a tie for 18th place with six others and the play-off for the very final spot was a battle between Casey Grice, Karlin Beck and Meadow. It took so long that the play-off was abandoned last night and restarted again this morning. Grice fell by the wayside leaving Beck and Meadow to fight it out and they did so in hugely dranatic fashion. On the 12th play off hole, Beck holed out from the rough off the green and Meadow couldn't match that good fortune, meaning the card went to Beck. Meadow will still feature on the LPGA Tour next year, as she earned a limited Category 17 status and with the level of talent Meadow has, we have no doubt that she will earn her full card sooner rather than later. Definitely one to watch for 2015.
