This was worrying!

Rory McIlroy has relieved concerns after being seen limping during the Truist Championship just days before the second major of the year - the PGA Championship.

The reigning Masters champion finished joint-19th at the Truist Championship and boasted one of his worst statistical rounds of his career, carding a 75. The 37 year old however bounced back on Sunday boasting a four-under par.

McIlroy has highlighted areas of improvement ahead of the 108th edition of the PGA Championship and in particular bad habits the Down native has set to iron out.

The Northern Irishman aims to end his 12 year wait for a PGA Championship which gets underway in Newtown Square, Pensylvania this Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after his final round McIlroy explained: "I've got a blister on my pinky toe on my right foot, but it's underneath my nail. So I can't really get to it or so it's a little sore, but I'll be all right."

McIlroy refused to blame the toe injury for his dip in form and explained he has felt the issue since Friday, "No, not at all. No, that was - I wish that was an excuse, but absolutely not" The six time major winner laughed. (You can see his interview below).

McIlroy's successful defence of his Masters crown means a third triumph this week would keep him on course for a calendar Grand Slam.

"It's fine. I'll be ok." McIlroy added at the end, reassuring his desires to clinch his third PGA Championship title.
