Irish professional disability golfer Brendan Lawlor will host the first disability golf event with a prize fund of €35,000 at Carton House Golf Club from September 23rd to 25th,
This landmark event, featuring eleven of the world's best disability golfers, aims to promote disability golf and inspire organizations to sponsor prize funds for future competitions, as current G4D Tour events lack financial incentives.
The three-day tournament will also include a pro-am competition on Monday, September 23rd, to raise money for charity.
The pro-am will feature 24 teams with an entry fee of €1,000 per team, including dinner. Each team will comprise a professional golfer, a celebrity, and two amateurs.
The competition will commence with a shotgun start at 10 am. It will feature notable celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment such as Shay Given, Conor Sketches, Brian McFadden, and Rian O'Neill.
“The message we want to show to organisations is that just because we have disabilities doesn’t mean we can’t earn prize money from the beautiful game. We have 12 fantastic players coming to the event and some huge celebrities from Ireland and the UK coming across to support the event.”
Lawlor also emphasized the importance of support in making such events possible. “While we are extremely excited to host the event in September, events like this do not happen without a lot of help and support.”
Those interested in getting involved through sponsorship or by securing a pro-am team, are encouraged to contact Brendan. There is also an opportunity to secure tee-box sponsorship for €1,500

“This is the first-ever disability event with a substantial prize fund, and it has been in the making for quite a while,” said Lawlor, highlighting the collaborative efforts of Modest Golf, Carton House, and Golf Ireland in organising the event.
