In again, out again.
Wexford’s hopes of making the leap to the next stage in their development have been dealt a fresh blow with confirmation talented forward Jack Guiney has left the panel.
Liam Dunne’s side shipped a heavy loss to Limerick last Saturday night in the opening round of the Allianz League, and much improvement will be required ahead of the visit of Clare to Wexford Park this Sunday.
However it appears the Yellowbellies will have to plan for the rest of 2016 without Rathnure man Guiney, after it was confirmed the star forward has once again left the county senior hurling panel.
Guiney was due to play the game at the Gaelic Grounds last weekend at full-forward, but was removed from the starting 15 before throw-in. Rumours began to circulate that he had withdrawn his services, despite figures within the Wexford set-up stressed it was down to a late injury.
However it has been confirmed that the player has quit the panel for personal reasons.
The 22-year-old top scored for Wexford in last year’s league, but was dropped for the championship clash with Kilkenny as Liam Dunne cited ‘disciplinary reasons’ for his omission from the south-east side’s summer plans.
The son of 1996 All-Ireland winner Dave, Guiney was disciplined after attending a christening directly after the Leinster SHC quarter-final win over Westmeath.
