The odds for Wexford to beat Kilkenny will not please Davy Fitzgerald

Conan Doherty

Sure how do you get the breaks when you’re a small fish?

Davy Fitzgerald doesn’t often need much to rile a reaction from his team. He’d scour the back of a cereal box looking for motivation if he thought he could manipulate some of the words.

Some managers like to form a siege mentality in their camp and they do this best by creating an ‘us against the world’ attitude.

Look what he said about you.

They don’t respect you down the south of the county.

They think you’re soft.

Jimmy Murphy has us to lose by a f**king point. Are you going to stand for that?

The idea is that nobody wants you to win and you need to stick together, you need to work harder, stay more focused to prove everyone wrong and enjoy rubbing it in all their faces at the end of it all.

There’s one game left in the Leinster championship round robin and, although Dublin and Offaly are gone, there’s still a lot to play for, especially in Nowlan Park.

Leinster SHC

The top two advance to the Leinster final so there’s that prestigious honour to fight for. The winner of the provincial championship goes straight to the All-Ireland semi-final with the loser guaranteed a place in the quarters.

Third place starts in the preliminary quarter-final against the Joe McDonagh Cup contestants.

If Wexford draw with Kilkenny, they’re through to the Leinster final. If they win, they’re through. Kilkenny must win to secure their place in the decider.

And Paddy Power are backing a Cats victory.

Odds

Kilkenny 4/11
Draw 10/1
Wexford 11/4

Kilkenny won the league game between the pair en route to the league title this year, but that broke a streak where Wexford had clinched four wins in a row over them.

Kilkenny are also coming off the back of a week break but Wexford are coming off their first defeat and an underwhelming one to Galway. If one man can get a reaction on a Sunday, that man is Davy Fitzgerald.
