Vote for your performance of the weekend

Four players to choose from

Conan Doherty

Well, that escalated quickly.

We’re in high summer now alright with Kerry taking their place in the semi-finals, Tyrone and Armagh ready to bring us back to last decade with an appetising battle in the quarters but some things never change – Mayo are still drawing.

Croke Park was graced with some delightful football this weekend.

Monaghan marched through the backdoor by exacting revenge on the men who kicked them out the front door and now they must face off with the champions.

Kerry swatted Galway aside and Mayo and Roscommon will do it all again on the August bank holiday Monday – the winners rewarded with a meeting with the Kingdom.

Throughout four action-packed games at headquarters, four men stood out and have been nominated as the AIB Performance of the Weekend.

Kieran Hughes (Monaghan)

In all the uncertainty over Monaghan right now, Kieran Hughes is the one constant.

The Scotstown man ripped things up yet again against Down from the middle of the park. His left foot is becoming like a torpedo, finding Conor McManus and finding the posts and he led the Farney through a tricky Round 4 encounter as they got over their supposed Croke Park hoodoo.

Jamie Clarke (Armagh)

You’d be dizzy and out of breath just watching him move in that Armagh forward line.

Night fell on Croker on Saturday night but Clarke was darting around for 76 minutes like was the first second every second.

Won so much ball inside, laid on runners and picked some serious scores as the underdogs booked their place in the last eight.

Paul Murphy (Kerry)

Ran Galway into the ground if truth be told.

When Kerry weren’t at their beautiful, economical self, Murphy made sure the supply line sickened the forwards with enough ball that the Kingdom would eventually find a way.

Lee Keegan (Mayo)

This does not need explaining. But this might help.

So get your votes in and the poll will be discussed on Monday afternoon’s GAA Hour.
