VIDEO: Fermanagh’s Ryan McCluskey on the journey from grass roots to playing Dublin at Croker

It all starts at club

Conan Doherty

All-Ireland quarter final. Croke Park. Dublin. Any given Sunday.

This is why Ryan McCluskey was dead set against splitting the championship in two.

He has had to wait 11 years to climb back onto this stage but this is the show he has always wanted to perform in.

When he grew up in Enniskillen in a house overlooking Brewster Park, when he was sneaking into Fermanagh matches and starting out as a toddler with the Gaels, he didn’t dream of one day contesting in an All-Ireland B championship. He dreamt of the big time and he dreamt of the big day.

On Sunday, Enniskillen Gaels product, Ryan McCluskey, heads back down the road to Dublin and he gets to stand toe-to-toe with the best in the land.

Throughout an unbeaten season at home, playing in his club ground and the heart of Fermanagh football, the Erne men have defied the odds to reach the last eight and McCluskey is once again living that dream he was dreaming the first time he picked up a football.

From club to county. From grass roots to Croke Park. This is what it’s all about.
