Three players held a total of 17 All Ireland medals
The inter-county departure lounge has just added another three All Ireland winners to its list with the announcements that Brian Hogan and Aidan ‘Taggy’ Fogarty will no longer wear the black and amber of Kilkenny while John O’Brien has hung up his boots for the Premier County.
Brian Hogan retires after claiming seven All Ireland medals,his first in 2006, while Emeralds clubman Fogarty departs with 8 Celtic Crosses to his name.
Elsewhere, two-time All Ireland winner with Tipperary John O’Brien has also called it a day after a 13-year career with the Munster side.
He claimed a medal in 2001 while he was a central figure in the five-in-a-row shattering side of 2010.
Today’s news brings to four the number of players from the All Ireland winning Kilkenny side of this year to quit inter-county hurling in a week, leaving with a grand total of 29 medals.
