The only thing better than Ciarán McDonald’s pass in club game is the Mayo commentary

This guy

Ciarán McDonald has a decent left foot.

Very few players have ever been and will ever be as faultless and as timeless as the Mayo legend is. What he could do will stand the test of whatever ages are left to come and he’ll constantly inspire a generation of footballers even now that he’s retired.

The beauty of someone like McDonald always told when guys scorned the fact that he was obviously left-footed. Just mark his left, that sort of nonsense.

But how do you mark one boot when he could go off the outside, the top or inside of that one boot with the same deadly effect? How do you mark one boot when he could just run straight through you if you gave him even a hint of an invitation? How do you stop a guy who could set up a goal from 70 yards away just as surely as he could split the posts from any angle and any distance?

McDonald’s native Crossmolina shared a clip from three years ago that perfectly summed up the McDonald effect. He bursts past a tackle on his right hand side, cuts inside on his left and drop kicks the whole way to the full forward line.

He seems to literally leave the commentator speechless.

Clips of this guy will never lose their effect.

Neither will that brilliant Second Captains interview where the Mayo man had the entire nation hooked on his every word.

What a class act.
