It’s looking ever more likely that Stephen Rochford will be the next man to take his place in the Mayo hotseat.

The favourite to take over from Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes has reportedly “accepted a nomination” to put himself in the running for the vacant Mayo job.

Last week, the current Corofin manager claimed that he hadn’t been officially approached by Mayo officials but that all changed on Thursday as the Crossmolina club man threw his hat in the ring to take charge of the five-in-a-row Connacht champions next year.

The deadline for nominations for the position is this coming Sunday, 1 November, but Rochford remains firm favourite for the gig and the fact that he’s already put the feelers out to assemble a backroom staff would suggest that Rochford’s on course for the job.
