The six team, 60/1 accumulator from this weekend’s 19 county finals

Niall McIntyre

TG4 have two games on Sunday.

They’ll be showing the Donegal county final, between Gaoth Dobhair and Glenties live and that’ll be followed by deferred coverage of the Clare senior hurling final between Cratloe and Ballyea.

All in all, there are 19 senior county finals taking place across the country this weekend, six of them hurling and the rest football. There are also provincial openers, with Scotstown beginning their Ulster campaign and a host of other mouthwatering clashes.

Here’s our tips for the weekend that’s in it.

Ballintubber 4/5 to beat Breaffy Mayo SFC

Castlebar Mitchels were going for four-in-a-row but Ballintubber said no. Diarmuid O’Connor wasn’t having a bar of it. The fittest GAA player in the country ran himself to an absolute standstill over the course of two games as the Tubber eventually outmuscled Mitchels.

He’s been brilliant this whole club campaign, as has his midfield partner Jason Gibbons, his brother Cillian and Alan Dillon.

Breaffy have been knocking on the door a long time, without ever winning a Mayo title, and we suspect the wait may go on.

Eoghan Rua Coleraine 1/2 to beat Lavey Derry SFC

Eoghan Rua Coleraine have been a solid club side for a long time in Derry but they’ve been outshone by Slaughtneil in recent years. This year, they overcame the Slaughtneil block, knocking them out after a slug-fest and a replay in the semi-final stages, and they’ll be desperate to ensure that isn’t as good as it gets for them in 2018.

Cappataggle 11/10 to beat Loughrea Galway SHC

A young Cappy side haven’t yet hit full throttle in this Galway SHC but they’ve been going about their business quietly and effectively. They were two points the better when these sides met in the group stages a couple of weeks ago and with the likes of Donal and Jarlath Mannion hitting form and Dan Nevin hurling well, they should have enough to take out their neighbours again.

Tynagh 15/8 to beat Liam Mellows Galway SHC

Tynagh Abbey Duniry have been the story of the Galway hurling championship so far. A young side, they were unbeaten in the group stages of the Senior B championship which saw them top their group and guaranteed progression to the senior quarter finals.

It’ll be a step up for them no doubt, against last year’s champions, but one they’re capable of scaling with Shane Moloney and Padraig Breheny on form and Paul Killeen manning the defence.

Ballyea 11/8 to beat Cratloe Clare SHC

This one promises to be a classic. Two skilful, attacking sides, beautiful scores and free-flowing hurling is almost a guarantee in Cusack Park.

Ballyea won the battle after extra-time when the sides met earlier on in the championship with Tony Kelly supreme and if he plays like he has been recently, Ballyea won’t be stopped.

Gaoth Dobhair 4/7 to beat Glenties Donegal SFC

Gaoth Dobhair haven’t won a county final since 2006 but this is their best chance yet. They’ve a star-studded team, with Cian Mulligan, Michael Carroll, Odhran Mac Niallais and Daire O’Baoil in with the county, as well as the experience of the two McGees and Kevin Cassidy.

They won the battle when these sides met earlier in the championship and though Glenties defeated them in the semis last year, Gaoth Dobhair have shown to be a stronger outfit this year.

The whole accumulator works out at 60/1. Worth a euro.
