GAA hoping to convert him to a different type of football
If you’re part of a GAA club in Italy, and you just happen to get invited to meet the Pope, then sure what else are you going to present him with than a Gaelic football.
The current leader of the Catholic church is a big fan of football anyway, but we think he probably knows a little more about Lionel Messi and Ronaldo than Bernard Brogan or Michael Murphy.
Pope Francis got his chance to test his hands on the leather of an O’Neills on Thursday when the Lazio GAA club were invited to a ceremony in Rome, which was celebrating some of the various sports clubs of the city, including the local GAA club.
We’re not quite sure who the lucky man is who got to present the Pope with the football, but the Argentine looks well impressed.
It’s probably our favourite GAA picture of the year.
Great to see @LazioRomeGAA representing the #GAA yesterday & giving @Pontifex a Gaelic Football! #BeThereAllTheWay pic.twitter.com/utkuKS5vcx
