One man is cycling almost 1,800 km to make it home for an intermediate hurling final

No matter where in the world you travel, you're still pining for that piece of home that was once your whole life. And there's nothing harder than being exiled and missing out. Especially when you're missing out on history. Valley Rovers are embarking on their own novel journey this season and will appear in the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship on October 11 when they take on Newcestown. And for one man, it's an unmissable occasion. Which is why he is cycling the length of France and crossing the Celtic Sea to be there. Brian Canty, a writer with Sticky Bottle, has taken up residence in the Spanish province Girona and he has been watching on from afar as his club progresses. He won't miss the decider though and has undertaken to journey for five days to make it to Páirc Úi Rinn from the western tip of Spain. The distances Canty has committed to each ride are serious as he plans to make it up through France in four days in time to cross over on Friday night. On Saturday, he's back for a christening before he makes it to Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday in time for "one of the biggest games in Valley Rovers GAA." It'll be like he never went away.
