Members of GAA WhatsApp groups enjoy brief peace

The app went down

Ben Kiely

For a few glorious moments, GAA WhatsApp groups around the country fell deathly silent.

On Friday morning, something magical happened to members of GAA WhatsApp groups – silence.

There were no unnervingly positive motivational messages from managers trying desperately to psych their players up ahead of the big game at the weekend.

There were no annoying reminders about gym programmes or fundraiser tickets.

There were no passive aggressive messages received from older lads who are sick of the poor turn out at training.

WhatsApp

There was nothing.

For a brief while, users attempting to send messages through the App have reported being greeted with a timer symbol rather than the ticks that indicate when a message has been sent or seen.

While the vast majority of WhatsApp users were freaking out over the disruption, GAA folk will have enjoyed the rare peace that came with the app going offline.

Unfortunately, nothing gold can stay.

There’s always the mute option, lads.
